Prokofiev: Sinfonia Concertante – New Video on YouTube
I am very happy to share my new video of Sergei Prokofiev’s Sinfonia Concertante, Op. 125.
This is, without a doubt, one of my favourite works of the entire 20th century - an absolute masterpiece and, in my view, one of the most demanding works ever written for the cello.
The Sinfonia Concertante is a piece of extraordinary scale and intensity. It demands almost everything from the cellist: enormous technical stamina, extreme virtuosity, a wide expressive range and, above all, the ability to remain part of a vast symphonic architecture while carrying the solo voice through some of the most challenging writing in the repertoire.
It is a work I have wanted to share in this form for a long time, and I am very happy that the complete performance is now available on YouTube.
